T O P I C R E V I E Wcosmos-walterIn 2000, the US Postal Service issued a s/s "Landing on the Moon" with $11.75 hologram stamp. Who is the astronaut depicted? The s/s shows a lunar rover. Thus is is Apollo 15, 16 or 17. I cannot see the red stripes of the commander. This leaves LM pilots Jim Irwin, Charlie Duke and Harrison Schmitt. Does any cS member know, whom the picture shows?Happy New Year,WalterKen HavekotteWalter--Without checking first, I am pretty sure it depicts an actual lunar surface photo with Charlie Duke in it! It was snapped by John Young during Apollo 16's first EVA with Duke standing at the rim of Plum crater in the Descartes landing site.nasamadYes, it is Duke, standing by the side of Plum Crater.Adamcosmos-walterKen and Adam, thank you very much for the quick and precise answer.WalterMark ZimmerI have a Moonpans print of that photo signed by Duke, with an arrow to the figure marked "Me."
Happy New Year,Walter
